Aboriginal spirituality includes the Dreamtime (the Dreaming), songlines, and Aboriginal oral literature. Aboriginal religion, like other religions, is characterised by having a god or gods who created people and the surrounding environment during a particular creation period at the beginning of time. Within this Aboriginal religion, no distinction is drawn between things spiritual/ideal/mental and things material; nor is any distinction drawn between things sacred and things profane: rather all life is ‘sacred’, all conduct has ‘moral’ implication, and all life’s meaning arises out of this eternal, everpresent Dreaming. Aboriginal Spirituality Until recently the discussion of Aboriginal people and religion often revolved around whether Aborigines were responding to overtures from Christian missionaries or maintaining their own spiritual identity. Aboriginal People do have a religion, but it is different from most other religions which mean believing in one single creator. Australian Aboriginal people don’t do that.

What is the Significance of the Rainbow Serpent in Aboriginal Origin Myths?

Australian Aboriginal religion and mythology is the sacred spirituality represented in the stories performed by Aboriginal Australians within each of the language

It mainly teaches respect for creation and the creatures that inhabit it. It is more appropriate to use Aboriginal religions rather than religion due to the fact that there is so much diversity amongst indigenous beliefs.

These symbols can stand for words or entire stories, and can help you learn a lot about the ways in which the people live, and follow out their beliefs. Ceremonies occupy an important place in Aboriginal life by providing access to the spiritual world and perpetuating the Dreaming. Many types of rituals continue to be used in traditional Aboriginal language groups and are usually associated with birth, coming of age, death, and fertility. Dreamtime is the foundation of Aboriginal religion and culture.

Religion Aboriginal people saw their way of life as already ordained by the creative acts of the Dreaming beings and the blueprint that was their legacy, so their mission was simply to live in agreement with the terms of that legacy. There was thus no notion of progress and no room for competing dogmas or rebellion against the status quo. Live.
